3 Alliance Media, LLC brings Redondo Ballet’s original production of Snow Queen to Ovation TV on Dec 12!
The arts network will also air a sneak peek of the production on its Ovation NOW app starting November 22
Ovation TV, America’s only arts network, has added a Snow Queen to its mix of Nutcrackers during its annual holiday programming slate in December 2021. Premiering on Sunday, December 12th, Ovation TV will air Redondo Ballet’s Snow Queen, based on Hans Christian Anderson’s tale. The ballet company has put an incredibly unique and exciting spin on the story, taking Rudie (whose best friend has been taken by the evil Snow Queen), on an adventurous odyssey.
Scott Woodward, EVP of Programming and Production Ovation TV, said, “You can’t celebrate the holidays on Ovation TV without the Nutcracker. We’re pleased to broadcast the linear premiere of Redondo Ballet’s Snow Queen on Sunday, December 12th. Plus, as an early celebration of the power of art during the holiday season, we will be offering a sneak peek of the production in the Art House section of the Ovation NOW app, free to all, starting on November 22.”
Liz Janneman, EVP of Network Strategy, Ovation TV added, “We’re doubly pleased to be showcasing this production from Redondo Ballet as it is in perfect alignment with our mission as an arts network. Equally important, through our signature Stand For The Arts platform we are dedicated to advocate the importance of the arts and supporte arts organizations throughout the country. Broadcasting a full Nutcracker production featuring a local Southern California ballet company is another way for Ovation TV to deliver on that commitment, and shine a light on local art.”
Redondo Ballet utilizes multi-media elements to propel the storytelling as the story opens on a pre-produced video that plays on-screen of a young Rudie and Pearl at play. The video ends, the curtain rises and the scene is re-created, live onstage, as the teen versions of the youngsters are now at play. We see their deep friendship as they play in front of their homes and then with other friends on a Summer’s Day. But the gypsies have come to town and the evil Snow Queen is secretly among them. The evil Snow Queen witnesses the friendship. The Snow Queen becomes so jealous, she later freezes summer and steals Pearl away. All that is left behind is Pearl’s favorite red scarf. She is held prisoner by the Queen, her minion, and guards.
Rudie frantically searches for his friend, showing the scarf to all that he meets. The Snow Queen tricks Rudie with a poison apple, causing him to fall into a dream state. In his dream, Rudie embarks upon an incredible adventure. On his journey, he depends on the kindness of some very strange strangers in many different lands. Rudie’s quest to find Pearl takes him into a garden where birds, bees, and flowers come to life, to the Southwest to dance with cowboys, to explore under the sea with mermaids and jellyfish, to the jungle to dance with animals and even into space to navigate among the sun, the moon and the stars, amongst many more fantastic locations!
Redondo Ballet was founded in 2014 by Francesca Stern. She was soon joined by Donna Perkins. They are the Co-Artistic Directors as well as the Co-Choreographers of Redondo Ballet. They have built the company from 10 members to a company of 70 members. The company has quickly become known for adding innovative and unique components to foster a narrative and take bold steps in telling a story. The audience will be delighted to enjoy the classical dance of a traditional ballet, yet Redondo Ballet enhances the beauty by including other genres of dance, making the viewing experience opulent, deliberate, and intensely entertaining. Donna Perkins directs the large-scale production which is a challenge with the many moving parts of the ballet. Donna is also the Co-CEO and VP of Production for 3 Alliance Media.
