BALLET IN A BOX

WHAT IS BALLET IN A BOX?

Ballet in a Box™ is designed to provide an all-inclusive program to dance organizations and schools that have been lacking resources.

California State law requires that every grade level must have an arts program, yet 80% of schools fall short of this mandate. Ballet in a Box fills this gap and helps schools meet the standard.

The directors and dancers rehearse and mentor the recipients of the Box and when ready the newly trained dancers perform the scene for their community. The  empowered dancers retain all the contents of the box and continue to share the experience with others.

BALLET IN A BOX GOES TO BELIZE

Ballet in a Box is literally a decorated box that contains all the components required (costumes, leotards, tights, shoes, music, story, makeup and accessories – all donated) to perform a scene from an original Redondo Ballet production. Redondo Ballet will travel throughout the United States and the world to culturally exchange with developing communities and countries. The dancers will rehearse and mentor the recipients of the Box and when ready, they will all perform the scene for the community. At the conclusion of the performance, the newly empowered dancers retain all the contents of the box to continue to share this experience with others.

It is important to make our dancers compassionate citizens of the world.

BALLET IN A BOX GOES TO BELIZE

In November 2017, members of Redondo Ballet travelled to Belize, where they took their philanthropic program, Ballet in a Box, and performed in several genres, at the Dance X Festival.

First stop… the television studios, where directors, Francesca Stern and Donna Perkins, along with some of the Redondo Ballet members, were interviewed on Channel 5’s “Open your Eyes” morning show, and leading television station, Love TV’s morning show. This was a great experience and an amazing opportunity to promote and share their Ballet in a Box venture. Watch one of the interviews here

Next it was time to knuckle down to the job at hand. Working with local dance school Precision & Style, our teachers and dancers got busy teaching choreography, sharing costumes and getting ready for the Ballet in a Box performance of Lost Boys – a scene from Through the Pages, an original production from Redondo Ballet.

And what a performance it was! The girls danced beautifully and everyone was so impressed with the level of team work and camaraderie exhibited by all the performers who took part. A backstage visit from US ambassador to Belize, Adrienne M.Galanek, was the icing on the cake!
